That’s called an add-a-fuse and caused no issue. It was installed improperly and that’s the cause of the failure. Dealerships and mechanics always look for aftermarket accessories to void warranties and to blame faults on.

"Taking power from components" isn't what's happening. You're connecting to the fuse box busbar in parallel. Provided the fuse holder was installed properly there's no difference between doing what they did and doing what you're suggesting

The other problem is, the power supply to that 10a fuse may not be rated for 20a.

ive used those for years on many vehicles. Never an issue. But you need to know what your plugging into. Like if its constant or switched power.

They come with 4 powered and fused dip switches already from factory for this very reason! With the wiring already ran into the engine bay!

You can always find it unused, constant, or ignition switched terminal on every vehicle. I never use those fuse taps.

Just an fyi those are only rated for a 10amp original fuse with a 5amp add on fuse so he would need that to activate a relay

I have something similar in my Tundra. I would have preferred to use an empty maxifuse but none were key power

That fuse tap should only be used if it’s being used to trigger a relay, the main power for the relay should be taken direct from the battery,
