My ex fiancé said the ring was the gift so when I finally left him I was able to use that in small claims court when he wanted the ring back. He legally "gifted" it to me and wasn't entitled to it being return. I sold it and took myself on the trip go Scotland - I found my new partner there. It truly was the gift he could have ever given me 🤭

Engagement isn’t a gift. It’s the promise of a contract. Contracts aren’t presents. Also, nobody should ever get engaged by piggybacking on another holiday. It lacks imagination and it’s lazy. Therefore it’s a red flag.

“Gifting” an engagement ring is tricky because engagement rings should be returned if the engagement falls through but gifts don’t have to be returned. So is it a gift or not? If the guy would want the ring returned to him if they split for any reason, he didn’t get her a Christmas gift.

Also a teacher once told me if you prose as a gift and something happens and it ends that is now her ring forever you can’t ask for it back bc it was a gift. Granted I hope that doesn’t happen but something that stuck with me.

I’m surprised by the comments. I’m with Harry. Rings are expensive, and the memory that will prevail at Christmastime won’t be of a sweater or perfume. The ring will be her favorite gift ever.

Yeah, he’s in the wrong. This is like my telling my parents not to reimburse me for plane tickets to Florida for Christmas, then not getting a gift in place of it since “tickets were part of the gift” 🙄
