(pasting this from a video I just commented on that was almost 3 years old) Dr maruki is genuinely the only villian in media that stopped me dead in my tracks and made me genuinely weigh up the options, how I as myself would respond given the same proposal and I can't say with certainty that I would have the strength to reject his reality. I live with constant chronic pain from a surgical mistake, most of my life his been lonliness, abuse and physical pain. I love my parents and family deeply but they also live with their own chronic (and for one) terminal health conditions. I genuinely can't say with full faith that I'd have the willpower to reject a reality where none of that suffering would have ever taken place, a world where my family and I can live happily and comfortably. Billy Kametz did a phenomenal job in portraying the gentle yet misguided hand of Maruki and Billies passing hurt me deeply

Unlike majority of antagonist with a understandable bad motive. Maruki really couldn’t be considered a villain and his motives are very understandable In where both decisions you choose are really understandable. Something really unique to p5r which makes it such a good game to replay.

It's such a naive take for the PT to think people need to just nut up and deal with their own issues rather than live in the dream world since for 90% of people they'll never achieve their dreams because so much of success is tied to luck, plus all the greedy/evil people that will crush you on the way, and all the random tragedies you can't control. Maruki was right.

Maruki is my favorite adversary I genuinely believe he transcends antagonist and goes to misguided protagonist he ain't evil just horribly misguided he not malicious he wants to rid the world of pain sorrow and sadness but just in a non feasible way

As much as his reality sounds good the only thing it lacks is adversity without it people can’t grow in a word where everything is perfect no one grows and nobody can thrive that’s why I can’t choose to live in his reality but it’s so easy to understand why people would choose his world
