@ressett_premier29: People always ask where we live and what base housing looks like, so here’s a little look into our life. This is our townhouse on Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. We’re ex-military veterans, and my husband is the Fire Chief on base, so he’s considered essential personnel, which allows us to live on base. Normally, most DoD civilians live off base near their work locations. I work at the school with special-needs children, but this year I took time off to care for my grandson. When you walk in, the entrance may look a little plain but everything on base is designed to blend in and stay low-key. It’s just part of living on a military installation. The kitchen isn’t fancy, but it’s functional, and I’m grateful for it. The dining room and living room connect, which makes the space feel open and cozy. One of my favorite parts of the house is the backyard with a beautiful ocean view that I truly appreciate. Upstairs, you’ll see what used to be my daughter’s bedroom, another room that was once my mother-in-law’s and is now my office, along with the bathrooms and our master bedroom. Living abroad for over 11 years hasn’t always been easy—being away from family is hard—but we’re thankful for the opportunity, the experiences, and the life we’ve built here in Japan. Grateful.
