It did not happen because your children were not enough. It happened because of the emotional limits of the person who walked away. Here is how a narcissist justifies abandoning their children for a new partner. 1️⃣ They lack emotional empathy Example: They understand that abandonment hurts, but they do not feel it deeply enough to stop themselves. Their discomfort matters more than the child’s pain. ❤️‍🩹 Healing: Empathy is what binds people to responsibility. Without it, attachment becomes conditional. 2️⃣ They see people as extensions, not individuals Example: Children are valued when they enhance image or compliance. When needs or emotions appear, the bond weakens. ❤️‍🩹 Healing: Children are not accessories. Their needs are real and deserving of care. 3️⃣ New supply overrides parental bonds Example: A new partner offers validation and escape from accountability. Parenting requires consistency and regulation, which feels overwhelming to someone emotionally immature. ❤️‍🩹 Healing: This is not love choosing love. It is novelty replacing responsibility. 4️⃣ They rewrite the story to avoid guilt Example: They claim they were pushed away or had no choice. This narrative allows abandonment without self reflection. ❤️‍🩹 Healing: Accountability requires honesty. Story rewriting replaces it. 5️⃣ They prioritise their own emotional comfort Example: When parenting becomes demanding, they move toward what feels easier rather than what is right. ❤️‍🩹 Healing: Healthy parenting is built on emotional maturity, not convenience. My final thought. A parent who can walk away has already detached internally. That detachment was never caused by the children. Your role now is not to explain their behaviour.
