It’s not weird at all. Some people just don’t like public speaking and sometimes they just don’t want to do one. I wouldnt say no to the sister as it’s a nice gesture she’s asked to do one if she’s told no it’s almost like saying she’s not good enough

My mum did it at mine. But my dad is super quiet and has no public speaking experience at all. I don't want to force him to do something he's not comfortable with

I think it’s a tradition that needs to be done with, or keep them to 1 minute max. They can be super awkward and nobody listens to them when they drag on for too long.

Went to a wedding recently where there was the groom, best man, brides sister and grooms sister. It was absolutely lovely and I didn’t think anything of it

Isn’t it now just family dynamic based, we’re way beyond the times of only men speaking right? When I think about it we had mostly woman, that’s just how our families are built the woman are largely the voice, ours dads just aren’t confident speaking and that’s fine. I simply asked who wanted to speak and we ended up with both of us, both our mums, his sister and my brother. Do what’s right for you, stuff tradition!
