@hedgerow_healing: The Hedgewitch and folklorist takes on mountaineering! Sometimes, to reconnect to nature you need a bit more than a gentle stroll through the woods 🤟 This was the famous route up to the Glyders via Devils Kitchen in Eryri National Park, a route which can be challenging on a good day, let alone in the snow. Thankfully I was raised mountain walking, climbing, and in the outdoors in general, and it taught me how to be capable in these conditions. Athough it has to be said, I can't remember the last time I summited a mountain in the ice and snow! Walks and climbs such as this one should only be attempted by those with the correct kit, who know the route, and who have looked at the conditions ahead of time. Be prepared, bring the spare headtorch, take a map, let go of the ego. It may look easy, but the wind was strong, the snow drifts were incredibly deep at the peaks, and more than once I lost the path as dusk hit. Conditions change quickly higher up in the mountains and they can humble you very quickly if you're not prepared. Many of the mountain peaks in Britain and Ireland are connected to ancient tales of giants, hero's, gods and goddesses, and at the tops of some you can even find megalithic structures. Part of my plan for 2026 is to show you guys the hidden mythology and history of the mountains, taking you all on a different sort of journey through the seasons.
