@jesseswitch: I have no idea why this is controversial. There is nothing wrong with charging for mentoring if you know you are providing a quality service. I have quite literally taught free classes & am very much a professor of bhopology myself, who has never charged, but that’s because I teach friends & coworkers. If a complete stranger wanted my time, knowledge & effort, I would most definitely be charging for it. How do we say our work is work but teaching it isn’t work even though teaching any other profession is work?

that's where the reductive nature of social media lands us... absolutely advice etc can be a charge service. I think it's the predatory nature here that's the big red flag. Mentoring is different than advising. one is paid one is not
