@therapistinrecovery: The primary goal of OCD treatment is eliminate avoidance behaviors so the ocd stops gaining power. In order to do that, we have to know what our avoidance looks like. Hopefully this video helps you identify some of the ways your OCD gets fed through avoidance. And as always, follow and watch my other videos for more on avoidance, acceptance of discomfort, skills, etc! #ocdproblems #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #ocdawareness #ocdtok #ocdtherapist

is it ocd if you want to clean/have things clean all the time but avoid doing it because husband and kids are going to immediately make a mess and the internal rage and anxiety is so overwhelming so it's 'better' not doing it??

Can you explain how this could manifest in an unconscious way? For example if someone doesn’t realize they have OCD but they may have unconsciously developed patterns of behaviour to avoid the compulsion

Something I’ve been struggling with a lot lately is the thought that I can’t to something I like (eg posting a picture), because if I do something bad will happen. If I don’t post it, is it avoidance?

Thank you for your educated insights on OCD. I just unfollowed an OCD ‘coach’ who used a whiteboard to rank OCD themes from hardest to easiest which I thought was so inappropriate and unprofessional. I appreciate your videos so much so thank you.

I avoid ordering food or eating because I’m convinced I’m going to get food poisoning. It’s really exhausting

How do we support the OCD college student with accommodations? Eg: they demand triple time to complete a test or an extra day added to a deadline but pacing is essential?

I avoid eating or touching so many foods for fear of allergic reaction or food poisoning. I used to throw some silverware away so no one would know I was afraid to touch a knife used on peanut butter

Yah...I've become extremely agoraphobic the past 5 years especially even tho I don't really want to be in my room alone anymore. Been binge-watching your videos this evening and I can't tell if it's good or bad for me🥲🫠

I have a fear that I’m going to get bed bugs (never had them, never even seen one) so I try to avoid trips so won’t think I have them 😵‍💫

How do I know if its my anxiety or the OCD 😭 I dont want to feed the OCD, but usually most anxious thoughts are combatted by me explaining the lack of logic behind them to myself to show that the situation is unlikely or unrealistic

found out how bad my avoidance was when my husband left for a deployment two weeks ago! it has been such a struggle with my contamination obsessions now that all of the chores that related to it are now on me! i genuinely was convinced beforehand that my ocd wasn’t even that bad, but i just wasn’t having to confront it LOL

I didn’t know I had OCD until recently and I’m 41. My whole life I get the uncomfortable feeling, sometimes I would fix it and other times when it’s too outlandish, I just ignore it and say “that’s stupid.”But then I have the uncomfortable feeling for days cause I didn’t fix it. Like two $5 bills being in the wrong order. I just put them in my pocket and refused to fix it. That was the end of Dec. I still get the yucky feeling to fix it. When I think about, but it wasn’t my money. It was my friend’s change. The cash is long gone by now. But I still want to fix it. 🤦‍♀️
