@nadiaaddesi: Disclaimer - This framework applies to relationships where both partners are emotionally safe and acting in good faith. It does not apply to abuse, intimidation, coercion, or chronic disrespect. And it only works when both people are willing to reflect and make changes. As a couples therapist, this is one of the most common dynamics I see. One person is trying to change the relationship forward. The other is trying to keep things calm. Both make sense. Both are usually coming from love. The problem is the loop it creates. One partner starts pushing harder because they feel alone in the effort. The other starts shutting down because they feel like they can’t win. Then both people start reacting from stress instead of actually hearing each other. When you understand it as two nervous systems trying to feel safe, it gets easier to stop making each other the enemy. And it becomes easier to build a middle that works for both of you. What is I told my husband “ hey babe, I think maybe we should rotate cleaning the house” and his first reaction was telling me I act like my life is so hard and poor me. I didn’t speak crazy or anything just said it calmly. Then it turned into a whole argument and all I was trying to do was communicate. He’s not much of a feelings kinda guy and hard conversations he just tells me he don’t wanna talk about anything. He’s just wants to let it go and move forward but I feel like we need to talk about thing. He says I have thoughts and opinions about everything. In 27 and he’s 48. We have a 4 year old autistic level 2 son. We both work extremely hard and he does alooot around the house. But I just can’t keep up and I try to communicate and he never wants to talk. I really do love this man. He’s the most amazing man and he truly loves me and our son with all his heart. I just don’t understand, how do I communicate with him if he just always shuts it don’t or we argue everytime I try. What to I do????

I’m sick of teaching them how to feel. How to apologize. How to act once they’ve hurt someone.

But nothing is “stable” if I have to keep complaining about the same exact things that aren’t changing.

Stability partner is way too nice. That's the "shove it under the rug" partner. That's inherently destabilizing, especially in the long run. The progress partner, that's the one who's aiming for stability. True stability. Because otherwise there is peace only for the "stability" partner.

In my experience, the "peace keeper" is always the toxic one. And they will get triggered no matter how you word things.

The problem is the partner that feels like it’s never good enough was good enough in the beginning of the relationship and then they got lazy. The other partner is trying to inspire that behavior to come back because that’s the version of their partner They initially fell in love with.

after seeing this video, the change/anxious one will change for their partner, tries to be understanding and will avoid triggering their partner. At the other hand the "stability"/avodiant one won't take responsibility because they're scared of that. And nothing will actually change..
