I was there in Surfers Paradise.. it decapitated the adults some incl the children witnessed this .. I think it's the most horrendous accident in QLD Fun Park .. the children survived thanks to their heights ... yes I think there were five in the stranded boat and as I said before it was instant I knew none of them and I cried for a week .. it was the saddest funeral I've ever seen .. I have never been to the park since and I never will go

The children didn’t scramble out, their uncle threw them out of the raft to the rest of their family that were still waiting in line.

They had over the lap Velcro belts . I rember going in them. The conveyor belt also freaked me out

Most of us that grew up in QLD have been on that ride as a child. It’s so scary that it happened and prayers that something like that never happens again

I was there on the day, in line for the ride when evacuation alarms started sounding! We had no clue what happened but if we’d lined up 10mins earlier we would’ve been at the front when it happened. Terrifying when we found out what happened 😳 so tragic

I rode this ride as a kid in the late 80s early 90s and then again with my kids in the late 2000s. One thing I did notice between these times was the water pumping up into the on/off section. It was significantly more powerful in those later years. Also, it was said the children were thrown clear.

i rode that ride numerous times over the years, and a week before this happened. it was a freak accident, and so very sorry for these ppl & families

They did have seat belts lap sash with Velcro. Also I heard the water level dropped which made the rafts stop. New trainee not properly trained first day on the job. Very sad

I went on the Thunder Rapids ride with my mum in 2008. When we got off I was covered in bruises, we were both in pain from the impact. It was an unpleasant experience

They were large Velcro seat belts, and if you were riding with a little kid (min age was 2yrs) they just sat on your lap and the Velcro went around you both. You could hold onto the circular bar in the centre of the raft

the seat backs on it were fairly high, which I've always assumed played a part in why the kids didn't get dragged into it because they would've been shorter than the seats

On July 3 2021 in Altoona Iowa an 11 boy died on a similar ride “The Raging River”, the raft became deflated and flipped. The older brother was seriously hurt but survived. If you ever go on a ride like this don’t wear the seatbelt!

I went on this ride in 2013 and it’s scary to think it could of happened to anyone and also could of easily of been prevented if they weren’t neglectful especially leaving a inexperienced worker in charge
