@mmadalynne: Most new bra makers buy a pattern, then purchase a random underwire to go with it, and this my friends, is wrong! I get it — a lot of times they have old bras that they want to use or they bought a random underwire on Etsy they think will work. An underwire is an underwire, right? No, the underwire and the bra pattern are a team — they’re designed to work together. Every bra pattern should be created with a specific underwire in mind, and the curve of that wire should mirror the curve of the bra pattern’s wire seam line. Choosing the wrong one throws everything off and no matter how good you sew it, there will be drag lines and other weird fit issues. There’s also an intentional amount of wire “play” built into most designs — and, if the bra maker believes in it, wire splay too. These subtle details make all the difference between a bra that kinda fits and one that truly supports. Two other common mistakes new bra makers make: 1️⃣ Thinking that if they are a 30 band, they should be a 30 underwire.
