Two traffic signs lay damaged at the southwest corner of E 7th Avenue and N 15th Street. Repairs would cost $300 total. Officer Parker spotted the driver step out of a gray 2020 Jeep. She was 24-year-old Callie Belskis. While officers talked to her, they saw signs of impairment. They also smelled alcohol on her breath. First, they checked out the crash. Then Officer James Blanchard arrived for a DUI probe. Callie said she drank at least six drinks that night at RITZ Ybor. Suspicious, he had her do field sobriety tests. He began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Next came the Walk and Turn. Callie missed heel-to-toe steps. She took the wrong number of steps. She botched the turn. Last was the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. Her count went off track. The crash damage, impairment clues, alcohol smell, her own words, and failed tests led to her arrest for DUI. Officer Blanchard took her to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. There, she agreed to a breath test. Results showed 0.235% and 0.238% BAC—nearly three times the 0.08% limit.
