There's a lot of overlapping symptoms with DID, schizophrenia, BPD, etc so people tend to mix them up sometimes! Which is why differential diagnosis is important, I don't think the person is at fault or is a "faker". It's hard to understand your own symptoms sometimes ^_^

Faking - Purposely saying you have the disorder knowing you don't for attention and or sympathy. Confused/Misdiagnosed - Someone who needs guidance and probably has something like schizophrenia, BPD, or other disorder of the line. Deserves love and patience.

I have something similar, but I can explain how real dissociative identity disorder works. at least I will try from my own knowledge, please don't take it like it's 100% truth. This is not how you usually see it on social media, or the person has schizophrenia, for example, which looks like a DID. How does it work? Their brain doesn't create a completely new personality, it blocks memories, perceptions of the inner self, and so on as a way to protect the psyche. In fact, even healthy people encounter this phenomenon of "displacement", you can google it. But in people with the disorder, this mechanism is broken, which is why a person can behave like completely different people, because his brain blocks all his personality traits inherent in him before. What I experienced was dissociative amnesia. this is at the heart of the DID. I forgot everything related to me in about two years of my life after the traumatic events, but the integrity of my inner self was not violated, which saved me from further problems. But people with this disorder (DID) literally split and each of the parts of their personality experiences the same, because of other "personalities". It turns out that each time the trigger activates the defense mechanism of repression of the traumatic experience and shifts it to another person's personality, and this works as a vicious circle. Yes, you can find out that you have personalities, but it will not be like a conversation. This is learned from friends, acquaintances, some inconsistencies in your usual life, something from notes in your phone, photos, etc. (How do you think I found out that I have dissociative amnesia?). What you see on social networks is not necessarily fake – disorders tend to interact and give similar results, or in extreme cases, a person may also have schizophrenia... Well, I hope you enjoyed reading

no. faking means you do it with intention. i genuinely thought i did have it as well because my toxic friend group convinced me i did when that wasn’t the case. i just ended up having npd and schizophrenia

faking DID is a weird subject because you genuinely have no idea unless they get screened because its all mental. ive heard many people say "no faker would talk to themselves in their head and research topics if they werent faking" and its a sticky situation because u truly have no idea whats going on in their head. if they eventually get diagnosed with something DID adjacent, then i'd call them under-educated. if they're found to be perfectly neurotypical, then a faker

I genuinely don’t think they would be considered a faker OR uneducated. Making mistakes r a big part of learning abt urself. Faking is (imo) intentional. It’s not being uneducated unless u didn’t do research on it first. /gen

yes, they would be considered a faker. however, faker doesn't always mean bad, it's nuts that they were faking their systems, even to themselves.

If someone thought they have DID they weren't faking, faking is more of the act of intentionally faking it for attention or some kidney of gain. Genuinely thinking you have DID is just being wrong about your issues rather than faking

nah, it just means they were wrong, it's like if you said 4 x 8 was 31 because you didn't know it was 32. faking is lying not being wrong. (EX: telling someone you were eating dinner but you just didn't want to talk to them) hope this helps!! v3

no, but people without diagnose shouldn't say they have it imo, just say they suspect they have it, as only professionals can understand if you have or not

I’d say no, being a faker means someone is purposefully putting up a fake performance of something. Being wrong is just being wrong, and that person was acting in good faith even if uneducated or unaware.

not a false but this is exactly why shouldn't claim to be suffering from something until properly diagnosed

as someone who does have DID and actually had a friend who thought they had it, it really really depends on WHY you think you had it, for example my friend thought she had it due to a side affect of a medication she took that causes horrid psychosis. After being off the meds she realised she didn't have it and absolutely at no point did I ever consider it faking. A lot of people can think they have it but it's something else entirely, and I wouldn't think it's faking, I'd only consider it faking if someone is purposely pretending to have it and knows they are pretending.
