So the parents left the kids home...alone...for an unspecified amount of time, the neighbor rescued the kids from a burning house...and SHE was the one charged with a crime?! Yes, the judge was 100% correct...but should have charged the absentee parents with abandonment.

The good Samaritan law HAS to apply here. Would the average person really rather her have seen what was happening and done nothing? She saw something and ACTED immediately. Not everyone has instincts that would allow them to override self preservation for someone else's children.
