@national.historic.doc: Why U.S. Tanks Were Powerful — But Not Enough in Vietnam 🇺🇸🪖 During the Vietnam War, U.S. tanks brought overwhelming firepower to the battlefield — but Vietnam was not a war built for armored warfare. This documentary-style video explores the real power and limitations of U.S. tanks in Vietnam. American armored units, including Patton and light tanks, were designed for open terrain and fast maneuver warfare. In Vietnam’s dense jungles, muddy rice paddies, and narrow roads, that power was often restricted. U.S. tanks were primarily used for base defense, convoy security, and direct fire support. Their heavy armor and cannons were devastating against bunkers and fortified positions, but mines, ambushes, and difficult terrain reduced their mobility. Tanks depended heavily on infantry cooperation to survive close-range threats. #History #vietnamwar #historyfacts #military

Thank you for sharing your firsthand experience, Bill. Operation Pegasus and the follow-on operations don’t get talked about enough, and your account really puts into perspective how intense April–May ’68 was around Khe Sanh and Dong Ha. The sacrifices made during that period were enormous. Wishing you respect and gratitude for your service.
