@meadweaver: Mead and winemaking kits are usually a waste of money. It’s cheap and easy to get started with your own DIY fermenters. #mead #meadmaking #newhobby #DIY #homemade

Hey man, what would you say is a good % ABV to aim for? My first batch i made was only 10% and is pretty good but im not really sure how to get it higher without dealing with a lot of extra work. Any ideas?

Back when I was dirt poor and had too much time on my hands I made apple wine with 2 liter soda bottles. I used a steak knife and drilled a hole in the neck then superglued a dollar store bendy straw in the hole. put the long end into a red solo cup held up by a cardboard box and filled that with water to let the gas escape. after brewing my apple wine I'd sell it to my friends for a small profit. It tasted pretty good too.

I haven't made any in a few years, but I've made some delicious meads. Also, Dandelion Wine...

I have two 6.5 gallon fermenting buckets and a 24 quart brewing kettle for pasteurization. 1 gallon honey + 5 gallons water. After a month of fermentation add 1 can of apple juice concentrate per gallon and pasteurize then bottle.

rossi jugs are so nice, but they're 4L which is larger than a gallon. So make sure you're making 1.5 gallons in the bucket.
