@cgledhill: It must have taken quite an effort to drag these stones here and erect them. I wonder why they didn’t just use tree trunks stuck in the ground if they wanted to measure the sun’s alignment. #neolithic #historytok #mystery #ancienthistory #exploring

Oh yes. Christian’s claiming something that predates them by at least 2500 years. Sounds about right 😭

If they've weathered / eroded that much since just 1778, I wonder what they were like 4500 years ago, they could have been a lot larger maybe, or over the years had markings and engravings which have long since vanished too.

Joe Riverman Songwriter :
The Devil's Arrows standing stones in North Yorkshire were likely quarried from Plumpton Rocks, near Knaresborough, about 9 miles away, as they are made of distinctive Millstone Grit that matches the local rock formation. These huge prehistoric monoliths were moved from this natural outcrop during the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age, possibly forming an early stone row or alignment. Key Details: Material: Millstone Grit, a coarse sandstone with large quartz grains, different from the surrounding local stone. Source: Plumpton Rocks (or Plompton Rocks) is identified as the probable quarry site. Distance: Approximately 9 miles (14 km) southwest of their current location near Boroughbridge. Significance: The stones are a significant prehistoric monument, potentially an early form of a stone row, aligned with the summer moonrise.

They appear to have significantly weathered in the last 250 years just 1/16 of their total age! Either the drawing isn't accurate or something is radically accelerating the decline.

This is the sort of location Ed Miliband and Starmer would identify as perfect for a mega-solar farm. They despise English heritage.

I think they used them as a way to track seasons for planting crops, using the shadows the rocks cast could tell them the 'season' or best months to sow.
