Unrelated but I’ve watched your Duke ED analyzation a bunch of times and you mentioned at the end that duke lovex interdisciplinary students. I applied rd as biology with double major/minor in public policy studies and medical sociology. Do you think this is advantageous?- student from Austin, Texas ( worried because central Texas is super competitive!!)

Hi Brandon! Thank you so much for that info session on LOCIs! I got deferred from Northwestern and was wondering if you think it would be okay to submit an extra letter of rec from a new teacher (my senior year Econ and gov teacher - I applied as an econ major). I think this would add a new aspect to myself by mentioning in my letter that I am also interesting in public policy and how that affects businesses. I only submitted 4 originally, and they allowed 5 so should I do this and add it in my portal as “additional applicant info”? Thank you!

Hi Brandon!! LOCI Q: I was deferred from Barnard and they use a defer form connected to the portal where it reads “submit as many times as necessary” The word count is 500. Should I still only submit once? Thanks!!

I got deffered from Yale. 1 week before decisions came out my counselor asked for my quarter grades (in which i had a C in a ap math class) now my senior first semester grades are much better with 6 A’s and 1 B in the ap math class. Should i mention my improved grades or will they just see it? I am low income first gen majoring in public health so getting deferred is honestly a big accomplishment for me!!

Hello Brandon! Thank you for the LOCI session, so much helpful info!!! I wanted to ask two questions about it: first is if I have a friend (we previously went to the same school in a diff. country together) who is currently attending the college I got deferred from and if I have met a student from that college, who is also a part of the school’s dance club, during a dance class and connected with them is it worth mentioning that I’ve talked about the school with either of these people like in the Yale loci example? (Dance is one of my main ecs) my second question is would you consider uchicago a school with large deferral rates and if I switched to ed2 would it increase my chances? Thank you so much for your time and help!!!!!!!

Hi thank you so much for the google meet!! For UPenn, should I address my Letter of Continued Interest directly to E. Whitney Soule, Vice Provost and Dean of Admissions, since she signed the deferral letter, or keep the salutation general? Would it be appropriate to briefly note that my first-quarter grades were slightly lower due to a medical diagnosis during senior year? For context, I received two B’s in Q1 and was diagnosed with acquired autonomic dysfunction (AAD) early in second quarter; my symptoms are now well-managed after doctor visits and medication trials. If u think I should mention it, how can I phrase and frame it? On a different note I sent this to all of my RD colleges and I’m worried that this was too much information. Is this wording appropriate and acceptable for Penn as well or should it be revised or omitted? “During senior year, I was diagnosed with acquired autonomic dysfunction (AAD). The condition has mainly caused headaches and related symptoms, requiring an adjustment period. I am actively managing my symptoms, and have seen improvement.” In your experience, what are the most common reasons students are deferred from Penn? I’ve heard of applicants calling the admissions office with their school counselor to ask about the reason for deferral and then tailoring their LOCI accordingly, do you think that’s helpful, or does it not really affect outcomes?

Hey Brandon, what would you recommend for a Umich LOCI with a 250 word limit? I haven’t started anything new I have been working on projects with some of my clubs and have scheduled some events but only one has taken place so far which is one that doesn’t really cater towards my major as much as it was a nursing home trip and I’m applying to the college of engineering. Would it be worth it to talk about my Ap physics class that I’m currently talking, I have become more fascinated in engineering from it but I’m not sure it that is something I should include? Also I have started taking dual enrollment classes at a different Umich branch (not the Ann Arbor campus) should I include that in this letter and how? By how I mean how should I structure everything? I don’t want it to sound like just a list but I’m not even entirely sure how it’s supposed to sound with such a small word limit! What should I include specifically in my letter when writing it? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated thank you so much for all your help!

LOCI Question: You mentioned how reaching out to an alum from the school and bringing takeaways from the conversation would add something unique to a LOCI. I got deferred from UPenn Wharton, and in the past, the number of students from my school that got accepted into UPenn each year is very small, with the number of Wharton students specifically being the smallest. As a result, I don’t have many options for Wharton alumni to reach out to. Do you think it would be okay to reach out to current undergraduate students at UPenn who went to my high school? If so, would you suggest avoiding freshmen or even sophomores? The person in mind that I would like to reach out to is a current junior at Wharton. Please let me know what you think, and thank you so much for all your help!

Hi Brandon, thank you for the generous and insightful LOCI information session! I understand that’s it’s definitely important to affirm that a school is your top choice in the LOCI. However, what if the school has an ED2 option I could switch to, and I am applying RD? Should I just affirm their my top school and not mention anything else?

what’s your opinion on Notre Dame leadership seminars and USC Bovard scholars? and do you think it’s better to do a competitive summer program like this or a local internship with a state senator (as someone who has no internships so far) over the summer? thanks!

I was deferred from Stanford, and they have us fill out a form on the portal with four 125-word questions. Should I also write a LOCI? Do you have any specific advice for Stanford deferrals or examples of responses that worked (and would you potentially be able to make a video similar to yours UPenn video on deferral strategies that worked)? Thank you! 🙏

Hey Brandon thanks for hosting the LOCI session tonight! I just wanted to ask if you know your regional rep from a summer program and you met them on campus but it’s not publicly available online, can you address them by name in your LOCI or should you avoid that?

LOCI Questions: 1. I went to an Oct/Nov boarding school so I graduated last November. Because I graduated, I won't be able to continue my ecs but I am volunteering at a careers office at a school in my city. How can I phrase that in my LOCI. 2. I sent an update after submitting to tell them I graduated and to give them info on new awards I received. Should I reiterate that in my LOCI?

Hi brandon! I was just on your session and it was so helpful, tysm! I got deferred from Penn Wharton ED, my GPA has improved a lot (100.25 WGPA) for the prior years, predicted around 104 W for first semester senior year. Around what time at the latest would you recommend sending in my LOCI since they say by mid feb and should i bother talking about ecs since they’re not super related to business or only tangentially connected (working on eagle scout project, establishing spanish nhs tutoring, being named spanish nhs president etc)

hi :
What would you recommend for a limited word space LOCI in a portal that says you can enter mid year senior grades there? For UGA, there is a 300 word space and it says you can enter grades there? Should we speak about grades even if they can download our mid year report and we want to talk about other things?

Hi. I was just in the LOCI meeting and I have a question. I asked in a previous video but this is more context. I had the option to take Calc AB senior year due to IB math SL a year early, but I decided to self study over summer (also took Business Calc DE over summer, but wasn’t AB content) over the summer to take BC (only kid in my school to do it). However, I got a B+ first trimester of BC which will be my mid year report. Would you recommend that I talk about the class context but not the grade? Also, could my school counselor call the school in early February to give an update saying I currently have an A- (if I do)?
