The last time I saw my oncologist after I had my reconstruction surgery with implants I asked him about mammograms and he said I no longer needed them.

I had mammograms every year with implants. Not comfortable, but saved my life. Last Summer I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, which was discovered when I got the mammogram.

Got implants last year and just had my mammogram done. They move the implants out of the way. My surgeon said it was fine to get my yearly done.

I have implants and have had two mammograms, It was not bad at all. Maybe a little more awkward when the tech has to grab your boobies a little more than usual in order to adjust the tissue from the implant 😂

I have implants since 2019 and I have to get a mammogram every year. They have found three different things in my breast, thankfully not cancerous since then and they would not have been caught unless I had a mammogram. They push the implant back. Click on photo and you’ll see the smaller picture underneath shows the implant when not pushed back

Help me understand. I just assumed after a double mastectomy I would no longer have breast tissue so there would no longer be a need for mammograms…also it might damage the implants. I have not had surgery or this conversation with my doctor yet but will soon. Maybe you can explain it from your experience and perspective.

I was diagnosed with ILC in Feb 2025, had a single masectomy with an expander and the. did radiation. I asked my oncologist if we were going to do imaging after all my treatment was complete, he said no. All we will see is skin and an implant. I was so confused, why don't we check our work? They don't get all the breast tissue only 90ish%. My next imaging will be in Feb, 1 year later. 🤦🏼♀️
