A 500-foot-long dredging pipe (longer than a football field) washed ashore in Myrtle Beach because it broke loose from a barge during transport for a beach renourishment project. The wave action and currents then carried the pipe to the shore. The incident occurred near the Second Avenue Pier, though the pipe was originally destined for a project in North Myrtle Beach. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the contractor, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, responded promptly to safely remove the pipe using tugboats.

its a beach thing, its to dredge sand and pump it on the beach, helps replace sand from erosion or after a storm etc
