My lgs doesn’t allow people to proxy unless they own a version that’s real. “Cards are expensive” isn’t a good excuse when you’ve been playing for years and there’s prize money/packs on the line.

guy at the game store close to me only proxies, the only cards he owns are basic lands that he glues to the printed proxies he owns. And he doesn't proxy small cards, he proxies stupidly powerful, first public game I ever played was against him and 30 minutes of a 40 minute game were his turns doing things that I didn't even understand, then he got Jin Gitaxias turn 3, and very quickly wiped us off the face of the planet.
