I was instructed to turn away inmates from our NA group if they weren't on the roster. I had one beg me to let them sit in for their sobriety. I followed protocol and turned them away. They went back to their cell and OD'd. They didn't make it. I never turned someone away if the room was under capacity again. I had to fight to get that rule changed.

I worked at a unit for 6 months in medical as a pill tech, it wasn’t the place for me. But I used to panic any time I saw an inmate on the top bunk with his feet hanging over the edge.

I’ve unfortunately been there. It hurts your heart because that is someone’s child. Saved him but, it was still very traumatic.
