I worked for a biomed field service company for over a decade and we serviced all sterilizers, autoclaves and steam boilers in Arizona. I’ve bandaged up may burns on our techs arms so this story is actually horrifying. These facilities will go to the ends of the earth to avoid buying new equipment. ASU Poly Technic is especially bad and they do testing on Ebola and Bubonic Plague! Cutting corners sterilizing deadly diseases was crazyyy to see

In a past life, I worked in dentistry, and I was always TERRIFIED out the autoclaves. We had smaller, counter-top autoclaves, but I was terrified one would explode and blast tools and metal, like a giant grenade. This story is absolutely horrific, and the settlement makes it worse

I worked at a hospital in the central sterile department. I CANNOT image being killed in an autoclave. It’s ridiculous hot. What a tragedy

I’ve worked with autoclaves for over 30 years and never heard of one that automatically turns on when the door closes I guess you learned something new every day

Fined $75k is not enough, and there's no record I can find that Tracy's family sued or given any compensation. Regions Hospital also tried to claim there was no record of it being faulty and it was an unfortunate accident. absolute BS for the victims family!
