My dad had a serious health issue on a cruise and said the doctors on the ship were better than any he’s seen before. And the insurance saved his bacon.

We were docked in Nassau when my mom had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital there and then flown to Miami. I was with her the entire trip. That flight was $30,000. Ships medical was $2200. Bahamian hospital was $1600. Thankfully, I got insurance. The flight was paid directly by the insurance before we left the ship. And mom was reimbursement for the other costs. Always get the insurance!

My dad almost died in a cruise last Xmas and we got disembarked in st kitts while he spent a week in the icu. Thank g- d for our travel insurance. Red carpet transpo to the hospital and we were covered for medi-vac but thankfully didn’t need it. Most traumatic situation of my life. Without insurance he’d be dead. Wads of cash means nothing in this situation. The first question every step of the way was do we have insurance and when they found out it was great coverage- everyone was really eager to help us on the island. It was like everyone was in on it. They must get kickbacks but worth every penny.

for those asking why they announce it; it’s like when you’re in a hospital and there’s a person down who may have fell in the hallway, or the rapid response team is needed. They have to act quickly so they put it over the load speakers so the team on duty can respond. It’s also part of the documented process that all efforts were made to get the correct team to the individual who needs care. (I work in a hospital lol)

I’m an RN. My husband and I took a Princess cruise from San Francisco to the Hawaiian Islands. There were more “Code Tangos” called (code blues) than I have ever heard in my entire 35 years nursing career!

After 32 cruises, I’ve seen lots of medical emergencies, even a death. One thing for sure, I always made sure I was insured before sailing.
