It’s basically the only salad that my mom made at home. She never heard about Persian or any other people’s dishes. When she grew up in South Africa, this is what she learned from her German mother. I later found that this was also how South African Indians served their salad in restaurants or their homes. It’s universal and delicious.

We make a version of this with evo basil garlic salt pepper we call it tomato salad which is fantastic with warm garlic bread with tons of butter
