@n0tk80: buying a house rn in america feels like a SCAM bc nowadays it’s considered a luxury #housingmarket #renting #rentingvsbuying #buyingvsrenting #mortgage
The investment is the appreciation. The house I bought in 2021 for 85k is now worth 175k.

When you’re renting, paying rent makes someone else richer… when you own, every mortgage payment makes you richer

The goal is to have a house paid off by the time you retire. That’s the investment. Renting forever is wasting money.

As a home owner at 22, easiest thing ever. Renting was such a waste of money. The process is a little annoying but it’s really rewarding and so much easier then people make it out to be

Bought a house at 24 (5 years ago), when housing prices were half what they are now. Would I now in THIS housing market?? Heck noooo lol

Idk where you’re at but a mortgage is like a third of the price of renting in St. Louis. I’ll live there for like 5 years then sell it for 50k more than I bought it for. Seems like a good deal to me

Don’t buy until you have extra money to spend on random expenses on broken stuff. You need to have mega savings to buy a house. Bought a mobile home but can’t afford to fix anything that breaks. It’s exhausting and anxiety inducing hoping something doesn’t go bad.

Idk why more homeowners don’t buy a home warranty plan. I pay $60 a month and if ANYTHINGGGG breaks, I just call someone and they come fix it. Similar to renting & calling your landlord when anything breaks. I bought my house in 2019 at 19 years old and it was the best thing I ever did

I feel the same way at 27. Maybe if I had kids I’d feel differently but I don’t see a point in having more space than I need rn

Your are missing out on years of building potential equity. It’s like not investing in your retirement till you’re in your 30’s. Not a good idea

bigger picture... where do you see yourself living at 60 years old... still paying that 30 year mortgage or paying rent/working to live?

It doesn’t seem practical because we talked to our parents and they talk about 2008 and our houses were so cheap, and then I bought my house in 2020 when the pandemic hit my interest rate is at a 2.75 which is really nice. Right now interest rates are double plus the houses are still expensive. Yeah, for you youngsters who haven’t bought yet no rush. You’ll get one when you want one.

the mortgage is front loaded with interest anyways and you are losing a large majority of your money each month owning a home too… this is why I decided to keep renting for now
