"why didn't anyone stop them? how could they let it get that bad?" and now as an adult, i see it happening right before my eyes. apathy. ignorance. complacency. fear. lies. hate. silence. the expectation to carry on as if society wasn't crumbling at our feet. empathy is my greatest strength and also my greatest weakness because all i can think is what if that was my mother? my sister? my neighbor? my best friend? what would i do if my husband was m*rdered right next to me? and then you see people try and justify the violence. blame her for her actions. "she shouldn't have put herself in that situation." or "she was a mother and should have stayed home with her kids." or "she defied orders of law enforcement." you cannot be f*eking serious. this isn't normal. this isn't normal. this isn't f*cking normal. i refuse to let their hate and violence consume me. i refuse to give in to the nagging feeling that all humanity is lost. i refuse to believe this is the end. i refuse to believe i can't make a difference. i have a voice. you have a voice. we have a voice. it's time we use it.
