I’ve had this Philodendron Brazil for about a year now. When I first got her the foliage was contained to just the top of the pot, but during this time I’ve been able to grow her out and take a few cuttings several times. With a little experimentation I’ve figured out a few simple things I can do that really make a difference in how well she grows. Here are the main things to get her to thrive: 🌱 Pruning and Keeping her Full - These plants, when they’re alive and thriving will forever put out long runners. What I like to do is take these runners, trim them up and repot a few of them in the pot to make her fuller. I do this by taking the longest runners, snipping them near the soil, allowing one or two leaves to remain on the part coming from the soil. Then I take the long runner, cut it up so that each cutting has two or three nodes and remove the bottom one to two leaves, leaving one leaf on the top. I then take a dowel, make a small hole in soil of the mother plant and place my cuttings in there. Slightly compressing the soil all around it. This helps to keep her full year round. 💦 Watering and Feeding – I wait until the potting mix is about 50% dry before watering. For me, that’s usually about once a week. Most of the time when I water I mix in liquid fertilizer to keep the plant fed. The method I use is a mix of top and bottom watering. I place the plant on a cache tray or bowl and pour some water on top of the soil to get things started. I then let the plant absorb more water from the bottom. This ensures the potting mix gets evenly and thoroughly moist, which is especially important when it’s been dry for a long time. I then let it sit there for a good 15 minutes. Always keep in mind that the chunkier the soil mix the more difficult it will be to use this method because the water doesn’t wick up as easily. 🪴 Leaf Cleaning and Pest Control – I clean the leaves regularly, not just to keep them looking nice and allow for photosynthesis, but to help with pest control. I start by spraying them with a castille soap solution, letting it sit for a couple minutes and wiping them down. This helps remove any pests that might be hanging around, and it also helps me spot any issues early—especially those that might not come off with just a general wipe. ☀️ Lighting – I’ve found that my Philodendron Brasil does best in medium to high light. I’ve been keeping mine next to a window on my desk that provides a little lighting, but I’ve had to supplement with the growlight. She seems to like it there. With just these practices - pruning and sticking, watering with fertilizer, regular leaf cleaning, and medium to higher lighting — my Philodendron Brasil you can see has grown full and healthy. I suggest you give them a try. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. #plants #houseplants #philodendron #monstrofarm
