I read a story about a party who received magic amulet that halved the damage of any spell cast on the wearer. They let one party member wear it for MONTHS, before they finally took it off to give to another player. Turns out the amulet was actually cursed, and as soon as they took it off... they were hit with the other half of every spell it had blocked, all at the same time

No! Because my players would INSTANTLY figure out a way to exploit a portal to and from that realm so they can save up spells during combat.

So, like Janet from The Good Place when she tried to summon things on Earth?

it wouldnt be anti magic then. It woukd appear as anti magic but its delayed magic zone. So to make it fair if players realized that they should be able to proc spells or even stack buffs/heals

That could be abused by spell casters by making their own anti magic zone and then spamming spells then going into combat if they had prep time

yes, you could have that be a thing that happens. large area can be enchanted to make it happen. have the player use up a spell slot for every fail to fire. then have it trigger when they leave the affected zone. pint of cast becomes the player for all spells cast.

I like the idea that instead of the que it’s just a surge of wild magic and the effects get worse the more magic you tried to use.

This would imply that the magic "signature" for your spells is applied through/on your person. I feel like this also means it would be tied to "why everyones magic is unique looking" in homebrew settings, everyone has different colors, shapes, etc. Fun headcannon🤣
