@rachelcruze: This isn’t just a math decision, it’s a peace decision. Owning your home outright gives you a level of freedom and security you can’t put in a spreadsheet. #realestate #homebuying #homebuyer #homeowner #investing
Agree fist thing I did was pay off student loans. Then car. Then house. Never looked back

I can’t justify paying off a 2.75% mortgage when my investment portfolio rate of return last year was 17.2%

I'm 33 YO with a 700k mortgage but I have 1.2M in investments 500k$ in non retirement account. I sleep very well at night, peace of mind is there cuz if anything should happen I have more than enough to cover the mortgage until things get back to normal

Peace of mind is knowing you have made hundreds of thousands of dollars more in your Investments then you would if you paid off your mortgage. Even the great Warren Buffett wisdom holds true here as well. Let's say you did want to pay off your mortgage well you can pay it off even quicker if you were to take the extra money you were going to pay for your mortgage and you continue to do that over and over in your Investments and then you could take your investment and pay off your mortgage quicker than you would if you were just paying say the $400 extra a month or whatever to pay off your mortgage. Would not recommend. Peace of mind is knowing you have six figures for retirement.

I would agree if you had a normal interest rate. But if you have a Great rate below 3% on your house, then I would just keep it and put the money in the stock market.

Totally agree. Mortgage suck because you pay almost all interest for many years before you even touch the principal.

I don’t need to have all my money tied up in a house. I can live in it and enjoy it. Can’t take it with me in the end anyways.

Depends. I do both but most of my extra cash goes to investing. Also you never really own your house since you have to pay property taxes.
