As someone who lives on the Rez this story takes place at. I can confirm that this story is definitely real. However I think there are different variations of it. I’ve heard of the same guy described but the story I heard was that he took a woman back to her place if I’m not mistaken. Did their thing and later she ended up really sick from that encounter. I was younger at the time so I can’t remember all the details. I just remember overhearing a family member telling the story that they heard from someone else. I know the place they described in this story. As there are many stories that I’ve heard about it. Even one coming from a family member. I feel I’ve been there myself but again this was when I was younger but I think whoever I was with we only went so far. Because of the very stories that were told of this area and knew to not go there.

As a Native American there are many stories of this story and different names for it, called the goat man, hoove man, and others I can't remember, my dad, and others ik encountered the hoove man
