I think this is a big sign of self confidence too!!! I truly think high intelligence walks hand in hand with self confidence. If you’re okay with who you are/being wrong/being misunderstood, it’s easier to explore others perspectives and let them disagree with you

Funfuct: there’s a concept in cognitive psychology that says you have to have IQ at least 120 to understand mental illnesses and processes on a deeper level which is basically equivalent to the ability of looking at things from different perspectives

Absolutely agree and this is one of my biggest pet peeves in people! We should be willing to think about why other people would do things they way they do, and to try to understand their perspective. Sometimes it changes how we think, sometimes it doesn’t, but it always helps us be more tolerant, welcoming, and open minded 💙

This is why Socrate hated debate and preferred dialogue. For him, debates were clashes of egos, while dialogue involved the exchange of ideas free from ego and sentiment. He laid down three conditions for discussions to be cooperative rather than confrontational. First, one must consider the other not as an enemy but as a friend with whom one seeks the truth. Second, one must be sincere with the other and accept the possibility of being wrong. Finally, one must want to find the truth, or at least reach a consensus.

I do this a lot..play the devils advocate and pretty much everyone told me it irritates them when I do it...meanwhile I'm not doing it on purpose..I just think it's not an objective or constructive conversation if we're not taking all sides into consideration
