Dont go shopping for clothes on a bad mental health day. It’s my number 1 rule. When you go shopping for clothes, put on whatever makes you feel like a baddie before you leave (clothes/hair/makeup/whatever) because regardless, your mood will drop due to the absolute SHIT sizing. It’s better to drop from high mental health/mood and hit neutral “well this sucks” than going while you’re neutral and hitting much lower and end up leaving and contemplating an ed. 😬😭

It's crazy. And like yes, it's kind of a "duh, welcome to the party" moment but listening and actually feeling are often very different! It's unfair to expect everyone to understand HOW STRONG the pressure actually is before they experience it. Thanks for talking about it!! It's very validating to hear from someone who has been on both sides that it's worse for us, honestly.

B/c female beauty standards are really about compliance & control, to achieve them all your mental & physical energy are used up, so you viscerally can’t do much else & it signals to men how much you have “bought into” system oppression (btw also the same reason they see GLP meds as “cheating”, it’s more difficult to identify compliant women). BTW u r simply lovely, inside & out, ty for your posts.

I didn’t realize how much of my internalized fatphobia was linked to internalized misogyny until I transitioned (ftm) and felt relatively neutral about my weight. Sure I’m dysphoric about other parts of my body but not about being fat, I actually kind of like it. It’s one thing to know that thinness is linked to patriarchy (as well as other systems of power) and it’s an entirely different thing to experience that cognitive shift.

It doesn’t help that the clothing industry is so wildly messed up and inconsistent in sizing.

It’s not you, our clothing is intentionally designed for mannequins and not real people. Then they bombarde us with the idea that if we’re smaller then it will fit. Even though even the skinniest women I’ve known have all the same fit issues as bigger ladies because the clothes are still not made for them.

They also just don’t make clothes friendly for bigger women! Or tall women! I’m 5’9” and all my pants are floods 😂 so I learned how to sew and now I don’t worry about size anymore

and it never ends no matter what weight you are! the key is to enjoy what you have at the time because in a few years you'll look back and think you had it good😂

I suppose that experience is part of mtf transitioning… I think it’s an interesting perspective and really useful.

there is a difference in treatment. I can attest as a fat woman who has been fat shamed by even bigger men.

Yes the media influence and the fact that there is no standard sizing like men’s clothing. That gets into your head!!!

One piece of advice I have, don’t use dressing rooms, the lighting is so bad I will lose it and walk out every time. I know it’s more time consuming but only try on clothes at home then return them.

Be kind to yourself. ❤ The pendulum has swung the other way, and we are all now being subjected to pro-skinny/anti-fat content (in comparison to the body positivity movement 10 years ago). It is patriarchy, so that women are more easily controlled physically and mentally. Do not shrink yourself to make men and mysogynists comfortable.
