That old pot is a chamber pot. Before people had indoor plumbing these were either put under the bed or in a wooden stand and you did your business in them, put the lid on and took it to the outhouse in the morning.

I have one just like it makes me think of the old days when they had no bathrooms in the house and I used to go to my great grandma‘s and pull it out from under the bed and my mom would sit down on it to pee and we put the lid on it so we wouldn’t smell pee in the nightYep I definitely remember that.
