For those wondering, red light is easier for your eyes to adjust to in the dark. So you can use red lights but still see if you look away from the light source. Where if you use regular light it’s really hard for your eyes to see anything else. Same reason cop cars have red lights inside for night patrol.

why do people use light? I have no problem hiking at moonlight even in the dark forrests. I see up to 50m - 100m depending on the details. I haven't seen yet a night when it was literally "pitch black"
