PSA: Caveat Emptor – What the Salesman Isn't Telling You About the Qidi Q2
The Qidi Q2 is an open-source 3D printer, and that's something sellers aren't always upfront about. The unboxing experience is underwhelming, with instructions that lack the detail needed for a smooth setup. The connection process is particularly frustrating for anyone who isn't highly tech-savvy, and software updates seem to roll out every few hours.
The Qidi Q2 is heavily inspired by the Bambu Lab P1S/P1S series — so much so that its software interface closely mirrors the look and feel of Bambu Studio. While the specs are promising on paper (an air filter, a chamber that reportedly reaches 65°C, and an extruder capable of 370°C), the execution falls short. Those high-temperature capabilities were exactly what drew me to this machine for printing exotic filaments, which makes the disappointing setup all the more frustrating.
I understand the appeal of escaping Bambu Lab's cloud-dependent ecosystem, but in my opinion, this product shipped before it was ready. Fortunately, I purchased through Amazon, making the return process straightforward. Ordered Friday, returning Monday.
I hope this helps anyone considering the Qidi Q2 make a more informed decision. Picture is for reference of a verified purchase, FYI.
