Red flags 10years and still a Lieutenant.

Yes, she’s still a first lieutenant after 10 years. There’s an issue with that.

I was in 10 years and got out when my son was 3. I’ve been successful in my civilian life and have a 6 figure job BUT I wish I stayed in. I could’ve been retired by the age of 37. I wish I just sucked it up. I got out 15 years ago.

Girl yes. I did 10 years enlisted and got out then became an RN. I love getting my VA disability and RN paycheck with me doing whatever I want and no one yelling at me because my hair is 3.5in in bulk instead of 3.

unless you're getting a job that makes 250 Grand a year, stay in the military

Military retirement is overrated. You can make as much with one rental property as you

I think they’re gonna get me for the long haul 😬, drawing a paycheck for the rest of my life sounds like too good of a gig lol

@Michael Pangelinan: I stuck it out for 20 and retired at 38 yrs old. Everyone I met who didn’t complete their 20 has regretted that decision later in life. But make the decision and deal with it. As long as you continue to work… you will still have a boss, rules, and restrictions. The only positives is not leaving your family… although some couples need that time apart to decompress. You’ll have to pay your medical bills and pay taxes on every dollar you make. Also… being the most Junior employee, you won’t get premium selection of time off. I still had to work after my retirement and was able to fully retire at 56 based on receiving my military retirement pay. I wish you the best.

Your reasons for getting out are solid. And you’ve done way more than most will ever do for our country. You owe no one any explanation. Good luck going forward.

With you being an officer now… personally I would stick it out 10 more years. That retirement check for the rest of your life will help your family in the long term. Then get a full time nursing career going. Then if you qualify for tax free VA disability benefits…. Just icing on the cake!

I respect your decision but I will tell you because I have seen both sides, nothing will come close to the benefits and work life balance that you currently have.

You have to be congratulated on doing 10 years and wanting to be with your family and become a nurse and have your own time. I asked somebody that got out of the military 30 years ago. My advice is not to give up for 10 years is to join the reserve unit and do 10 more and then draw your retirement but getting out it’s not a bad decision family first good luck from a marine.

Understandable! I got out as a Captain at 12 years (7-years prior enlisted, SSgt). Everyone told me I was crazy not to finish that last 8 too! However, for me, it was time to go! Went on to make a lot more money as a corporate IT Director and fully retire at 46, anyway! It’s a deeply personal decision! Do what’s best for you and your family (just fully own the decision)!
