you know what I'd buy SD cards that size if they were cheaper than smaller ones... like I want high density storage. I don't care about having a teeny nano size fucking rice grain that you can lose... I just want to be able to store shit off of my computer.

Relatively simple mechanism once you understand it (and there are other similar mechanisms going back hundreds of years), but the magic is making them so small yet still so reliable.
