Relatively simple mechanism once you understand it (and there are other similar mechanisms going back hundreds of years), but the magic is making them so small yet still so reliable.

oh you CAN put the sd card in backwards ... it just won't come out again (i jammed one into my 3ds and it took a lot of effort to get out back out)
