In Canada, you don't install it like that; you need furring strips for an air gap.

no. never. not ever. now it will rot faster. claps always should just go in with no effort. the water gets trapped now that its too tight and rots the ends out faster

I would have it tight at the seams but 1/8” gap on the corners. Never have wood that tight my guy. It’s going to buckle. You live & learn
