She might be hearing her inner dialogue when he says it but he could also choose better words. “She’s gone” is a pretty harsh way to say “she goes to work”. I think his wording is also triggering this

I don’t think the therapist was fair here. It does a woman no favours to be gaslit into thinking she’s ‘hearing’ things. He’s using the word ‘gone’ instead of ‘working’ or ‘occupied’. That’s a very negative word to use.

It’s hard, really hard as a woman to have a career and be a wife and a mom. I’m 62 and it really wasn’t that long ago that I realized that I have no idea who I am. I focused being a wife, then a wife & a mom and then a single mom. I always continued to work, but I passed up so many opportunities because I put everyone else first. I’m not blaming anyone, I did that to me and for the most part I have no regrets but that cute, fun and ambitious young woman I was is gone forever and as I type this, I mourn that loss.

And yet if the shoe was on the other foot and she was talking about him working 6 days a week she’d be nagging him. If he was supportive he would not be encouraging her to leave her job. He would reassure her he’s got things under control while she’s working. His ego is so threatened by her.
