Most nyc hospitals outside of the HHC. Do not have armed security guards. So they really can’t do much. When it comes to someone with weapons.

I’m pretty sure the security at my hospital is only concerned about where employees are parking

One security guard versus someone in psychosis? We can’t judge this person and it’s been five years since I worked in New York and security did not carry a gun for any kind of self-defense. They are allowed to wear bulletproof best though, but the nurses aren’t., I actually wouldn’t want him because it would be really hot, but I would like to have one available if I felt like my life was in danger. Hospital executives are the ones to blame. All they care about is the shareholders they leave skeleton staff to manage undiagnosed psychiatric people., you never know when someone’s gonna break and sometimes people get really frustrated in hospitals . I’m really sick of hearing about healthcare workers having to go into disability because of lack of proper management. Look at that Nurse nearly lost her life. She’ll never work again. And she had to rely on go fund me to take care of her not the hospital that you worked for for 30 years.

I absolutely believe that the security guard and the patient have PTSD. However, if it had been a nurse held hostage, mgt would have asked what they could have done to prevent the situation. There would have been NO SHITS given about anxiety or trauma. Not to mention they would have been expected to finish their shift and been told that it’s an expected hazard of the job!

Had a patient ask why there were literally 40 squad cars and SWAT parked outside. Found out at the end of my shift that a prisoner/patient on the second floor overpowered the correctional officer and tased her with her own taser and she shot him. This happened on the 2nd floor while I was working on the 4th and no one told us while it was happening.

This sounds like he was having a mental health crisis and maybe he wanted to die and people were trying to stop him? Just trying to imagine it from what I heard you say without additional information.

My last hospital had a code silver and we were never informed. I worked in an outpatient clinic where patients were coming and going right through the code silver zone. And no one thought to let us know.

oh yeah he got a workers comp case out of his dysfunction. this way he has an excuse for his inefficiency. omg, at one point in time Methodist was the BEST hospital in Brooklyn. before Presbyterian took over and cut it to bare bones. 25 years when I graduated I dreamt of working there.

These hospitals’ administration couldn’t care less about the safety of patients or staff. It’s all about money & nothing else.
