@unknown_woodworking: As if I needed an excuse to buy more tools but if I do more spoon carving a fro is definitely on the list. Of course I also grabbed this piece of spalted maple which was near a crotch instead of a nice simple straight grain piece but why make learning easy. Thanks for watching me hack this almost into a shape. Full disclosure I immediately took it to the bandsaw to get my rough shape before carving.
