@askcher1: O-Level results season is stressful, but choosing between JC vs Poly isn’t about who’s smarter anymore. It’s about assessment style, learning personality, university goals, and your risk tolerance. Singapore’s education system is seriously too rigid

Its still very difficult for a above average poly student to get into Uni vs. an below average JC student can easily secure a seat in Uni. Let that sink in...😅😂😏

if you choose JC, you pretty much put all your eggs in one basket. It's Nus/ntu or bust. If you do well enough in olevel that you can choose which JC to go to, then go JC. But if you only qualify to go to the worst JC, I suggest poly instead

My son scored 8 for best 6 subjects in o'levels, but I advise him to go poly and have fun and he did. He strived with scholarship every year. waiting for NS this yr, there already uni ready to give him a seat. I think most importantly, we parents must help kids to discover not just their gifts, but also understand what they like, and then direct them a path where they can excel the most. communication is very important.

This is precisely how coffee shops/hawkers get replaced by conglomerates and schools end up with centralised kitchens. The push to scale up leaves core, day-to-day jobs undervalued and poorly incentivised, forgetting that mastery and skill matter more than credentials.

The irony is that JC is a better route to Uni, but it isn't even useful in the era of AI? It's a traditional education system that fail to keep up.

JC is where most of the smarter better grades student go statistically. The very fact that JC students do better and earn more in their life is proof JC students are better.

Nowadays JC also a lot of projects, even work with outside vendors n organisations, just that they don’t tell you. Some are so good, they get holiday job offers from these organisations. Poly takes a longer time to Uni. Why waste time if your final goal is Uni? That one year of difference could mean pay increase or promotion. One guy in my co got 2 promotions in one year, his friend (poly route) became his subordinate.

JC or Poly? Doesn’t matter. A Malaysian is more welcomed to work in Singapore than Singaporeans themselves. And that Malaysian will have a bright future back home 🥰🥰👏

end of the day, JC, Poly or ITE, you still lose out. FT still gets the job.

Top 1/3 is above average. It is not as difficult as you mention. Also agreed on below average JC. Poly will be more chill than slogging out in JC more time to develop and built portfolio for university applications

@Mark Huang: As an employer. I pick JC over poly any day. You probably won’t realize it in your teens to 20s, but those that went through JC just have more grit; one of the many sauces of success. Furthermore, critical thinking is another thing that sets a JC student apart from Poly. That one subject, GP, is profound!

Went to JC for 1 day, then officially withdrew from JC entirely second day onwards, saved money on buying school uniform. Went to work before poly starts in July. After grad from poly , got offer from both NUS and SMU (I only applied to these 2) and decided to go with NUS. I had so much fun and met so many talented people in Poly, some even scored 6 points for their O levels. Learning was not stressful, students have so much space to breathe, explore, work on projects together….

Its easier to get to local uni from JCs and you saved one year as compared to poly. No right no wrong. Poly students might have the technical edge but see whats your priority

poly if you want going university your's GPA must be 4 the opportunity is bigger but JC if your's results is A or B or C also have the opportunity to going university. because the interviewer is seeing how is your's characteristics and performance of handling to solve problem and than results
