In 2016, a 15-year-old boy was being treated for leukemia at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis when doctors began noticing something they couldn’t explain. His condition kept getting worse. He developed multiple bloodstream infections caused by bacteria normally associated with fecal matter. The infections became so severe that he went into septic shock several times, spent around 18 days in intensive care, and had his chemotherapy delayed for weeks. Doctors couldn’t figure out how the bacteria kept entering his bloodstream. Then hospital staff became suspicious of his mother, Tiffany Alberts. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Alberts entering her son’s room and using a syringe on his IV line. When investigators questioned her, she first claimed she was only flushing the line with water because her son said the medication burned. But she later admitted the truth. Alberts said she had been injecting her son’s own fecal matter directly into his IV. According to investigators, she claimed she did it because she wanted him transferred to a different unit where she believed he would receive better care. Instead, the injections repeatedly made him dangerously ill while he was already fighting leukemia. Alberts was charged with attempted m*rder, aggravated battery, and neglect. A jury later found her not guilty of attempted m*rder, but convicted her of six counts of aggravated battery and one count of neglect. In 2019, she was sentenced to 12 years, with seven years to be served in prison and five years suspended. Her son survived. Doctors had spent weeks trying to understand why a cancer patient kept developing unexplained infections. The answer was coming from inside his own hospital room. #analoghorror #truecrime #hospital #medicalmystery #criminalcase
