Implying that saying he beats or hits his students is a hc then saying he doesn't is a hc aswell. Filename2 is not canon. He's not able to control Baldi, and if we're talking about classic remastered where null impacts the lore in some way, he doesn't control Baldi either way. It's either 99 or Baldi. Null tries to help the player and get them to destroy the game, yet the player doesn't listen and that's why he gets mad at the player. It wouldn't be logical to try so hard to get us to destroy the game if he wanted to do something bad to us, While Baldi might not be ENTIRELY at fault watering him down to a 'silly cars guy who could do no wrong' is as annoying to others as you implying that people don't have the right to think he's actually a character with lore and not just a mascot who's innocent and babied

Any Baldi game released before Baldi's Basics Plus isn't considered canon. From what we've seen, there's no evidence of what Baldi actually does to students when he catches them. Starting with Baldi's Basics Plus, it's revealed that they're just playing hide n seek, and the tutorial explains it much more clearly. In the tutorial, Baldi simply says that getting caught by him means Game Over, emphasizing that it's only a game of hide n seek. So yeah, Baldi doesn't kill the students when he catches them.
