Sometimes they approach so gently that we can see their eye just beneath the surface and in that moment, it feels like a true connection with the ocean. These encounters are never accidental. The whales decide when to approach, how long to stay and when the moment comes to an end. Did you know: Gray whales migrate farther than almost any other mammal on Earth, traveling up to 20,000 km round-trip every year. Some individuals have been documented following nearly the same route for decades, returning to the very same lagoons across generations. Here in the lagoons of Baja California, this behavior becomes even more extraordinary. Some whales actively choose to approach small boats, a unique learned behavior passed down over time.
