the oyster shells left by the romans were used as "tickets" to sail..they had a hole put in the shell when they boarded..hence the saying the world is your oyster..also why travelcards are called oyster cards🥰

Ye Olde" was pronounced "the old," not "yee olde," because the 'y' is a printer's substitute for the Old English letter "thorn" (þ), which made a 'th' sound, making it a simple spelling quirk for "the". Printers used 'y' because it looked similar and was available in continental fonts, leading to the misleading "Ye Olde Shoppe" but meaning "The Old Shop".
