My PT Jamal :
I think those who get hopping mad should spend a day with a nurse or doctor or even admin staff to experience what it takes to work under pressure and deliver the best of the best

No amount of workload makes neglect okay! I’ve been burnt out and exhausted, yet I have never neglected a patient. I can hold my hands up and say There have been rare occasions where, due to workload, I’ve momentarily forgotten to return a call buzzer but as soon as I realised or noticed, I corrected it immediately.

For fun :
Also understaffing will lead to neglect. One person can not do the job of two safely, timely manner, approriate standard unfortunately.

There is not enough staff on shift to give ‘care’ —> bedside care has gone! You’ll get the bare minimum interactions with staff throughout a shift.

Yes! I have never complained about waiting, I understand treatment is priority based and someone else may need to be seen before me, I do however complain at the way some nurses & doctors have treated me on the rare occasion I have been to hospital. Complete lack of care for patient safety and wellbeing!

Sorry for you and your poor mumma for having such a hard time. I will say as a nurse, I am stepping away from bedside nursing and moving into the community. My reason for this is because of the immense pressure we face daily (I also worked in A&E) I felt myself losing my compassion towards my colleagues and my patients. It’s the most challenging decision I’ve had to make, I felt myself feeling annoyed towards people who I was there to help and support. On the flip side unfortunately I have also worked with people who are just absolutely terrible at their jobs and just didn’t care- this made my compassion fatigue so much worse too. I think sometimes (not always though, definitely not making excuses for neglect/abuse!) it genuinely is because people are so burnt out they lose their compassion and ability to physically care. It sounds so horrible and believe me as someone who’s experienced it, it really is horrible.
