@abbeyskitchen: Is your chicken washed in chlorine??? Folks, this is another great example of distorting the truth for a fear mongering and clickbaity headline. Chlorine is used as an antimicrobial rinse for some products (to keep you safe from foodborne illness!!!), but it’s in very dilute solutions and safe to consume. Trust me, you would rather have chicken that’s been treated than not. #foodsafety #groceryshopping #mythbusters #chlorine #chicken
Pretty sure I had more chlorine in my system when I was younger and swam in my aunts pool

Regulatory Specialist here in the food and dietary supplement space. Antimicrobials come in chemical and biological-extract forms. Chlorine rinses are no longer as common as a natural derivative antimicrobial would be. Fungi derivatives are more common as they are easier to harvest, easier to process, and pass EPA regulations easier since they can be disposed of cleanly. Finally: all food must pass microbial testing, heavy metal testing, and physiological tests (smell, sight, taste) to be released to the general public. You run the risks of contamination more frequently when you have unwashed and/or unprocessed food items when their final form isn’t processed into a canned or preserved product. If you are worried about the brand, google them and look for ISO certifications, GMP certifications, and HACCP certifications specifically GFSI as GFSI certifications are the most stringent, think premium certification.

The problem is that the allowance of the use of antimicrobial rinses allows manufacturers to mask poor hygiene on farms and therefore they can have lower animal welfare standards. Rather than pushing people to avoid eating the rinses, these people should be pushing the government to change regulations which will prevent farms from using them and increase welfare.

Wait until she hears there’s some chlorine in our drinking water supply to protect us from drinking bacteria that will kill us.

Can you talk about the freezing then toasting bread trends? Because based on what I’ve seen it’s one of those “I’m focusing on this minute detail that barely makes a difference instead of just trying to eat a bit more nutrient dense food”

The real issue isn't health; it's standards. In the US, chlorine washes are used at the end to kill bacteria. In the UK/EU, the focus is on cleaner farming throughout the process, so that step isn't needed. The farming standards in the UK/EU are higher, and regulations are stronger. This is because US farmers have a very strong lobby, which means they can get away with lower farming standards, requiring the use of chlorine to compensate for the weaker standards under which the animals are reared.
